Yankees barely salvaged that game tonight, but Giambi bails them out of the sweep. I only caught one AB of the whole game... it just happened to be Giambi stepping up to the plate when I walked into a Circuit City. At least it was on a 60 inch plasma. _________________

And the Rays win their 82nd game, which means its a WINNING SEASON! Its their 11th season, making it the second longest (tied with Nats/Expos and Astros) opening drought since the start of the expansion era in 1961. Sorry Seattle, you're still #1. _________________

| Cy Young Sabathia should have had a no-hitter today but the official scorer in Pitt gave a hit on swinging bunt that Sabathia tried to field with his bare hand & dropped it. If he had picked it up with his glove, thrown the ball to the catcher & Kendall threw it to first, they still might have got the runner who gave up on the play. Brewers are appealing it. It'll probably get overturned & the no-no will be credited, but it's not the same after the fact.

Apparently, according to baseball’s rulebook, only the official scorer may change a judgment scoring call. If official scorer Bob Webb were to decide to change the call, it would be the first time in major league history a no-hitter was awarded retroactively.
Does he change it? Probably not but like you said even if he does it's just not the same.

| The pain is over this season. On the other hand Halladay is 1-3 against the Rays. Rays players have even said they have no idea how they've been able to do so well against him.Easy answer though is the brytal run support early in the season for Halladay.

MLB can overrule it. They did it earlier for the Brewers which made two Mota earned runs unearned through the same appeal process.

sketchy...I think that is a base hit. it wasnt like he misplayed it....ive seen Jose Reyes do that many times bunding for a hit and the pitcher runs to get it, cant pick it up and its a bunt single. I think that was probably similar to what the official scorer was thinking. It wasnt like he misplayed the ball..he just couldnt get to it in time to cleanly field it. _________________

| I've watched the replay several times and I agree with Commish. If he would've gloved that ball, turned, and thrown -- it would've been a bunt single. That's why he tried bare-handing it. Yes, he would've gotten him if it had been handed cleanly, but I don't think you can expect someone to make that play.

It was Andy LaRoche running though, not Reyes. With Reyes, yes, it's a hit, but when Sabathia botched the play, LaRoche wasn't even halfway down the line. If he fields it cleanly, he's got him by a country mile.
