I was reading that the Phillies have been talking to the A's about Joe Blanton for a trade.

I read this too, but the writer on MLBTR said that it is highly unlikely a deal will get done for Blanton in general because he isnt having a great season and Beane refuses to lower the asking price.

I heard them talking about this on espn radio this morning. They say that the talks between the Phillies and the A's about Blanton are accelerating.

"Hideki Matsui's uncertain status for the rest of the year has caused the Yankees to increase their interest in Pittsburgh outfielders Jason Bay and Xavier Nady.

A major-league official familiar with the Pirates organization, who asked not to be named because of the sensitive nature of trade talks, said the Yankees also have interest in lefty relievers Damaso Marte and John Grabow.

"It's going to take a little bit of time," the official said of Pittsburgh's evaluation of Yankees prospects. "I think with recent events, (the Yankees) would like to add a bat."

Pittsburgh wants more for Bay than Nady, the former Met; both are right-handed hitters who would help balance the Yankees lineup.

Minor-league outfielders Austin Jackson and Jose Tabata and pitchers such as Ian Kennedy are names that could be discussed. Melky Cabrera does not interest the Pirates, who have All-Star Nate McLouth in center field."

Rumor has it that the Indians are in talks with the Brewers for Eric Gagne.

That makes zero sense from the Indians standpoint unless the Brewers paid 90% of his remaining salary.

I read on ESPN that Nady is openly lobbying to stay in Pittsburgh. He enjoys being part of the Pirates. "Can't imagine why"

No pressure and no media.

Unless it's just to get the compensatory picks...but I doubt it.

Gagne got Type B compensation last season, so I doubt he gets any better then that this year.

LOL. Wiping a season with two innings off the books & replacing it with nearly any season is a positive move.

It also made zero sense for Borowski to be the Indians closer for the last 2 years. A closers fastball needs to be faster than 80MPH.

The Red Sox are in talks with a few teams in an attempt to bolster their bullpen. Brian Fuentes is the main guy they are targeting. he has taken over the closer role in Colorado and has put up decent numbers.

ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees are taking a "serious look" at Jarrod Washburn.
Washburn's ERA sits at 4.75 on the season, but that's down over two full runs from his 6.99 high on May 23. He has also pitched well at Yankee Stadium, sporting a 2.82 ERA in six starts there over his career. He's under contract for $9.85 million in 2009, and the new Yankee Stadium is thought to benefit lefties just like the current one. With Andy Pettitte and Mike Mussina both facing free agency this winter, he could provide depth for the next year and a half.

Time to pick up Washburn in your leagues and store him away zzwinzk

Now THAT would be a desperation move. $10M for JARROD WASHBURN.

Desamo Marte is another guy they are looking at. I am guessing that the Red Sox are unhappy with Buchholz as an SP right now, and want to put Masterson back in at SP, so they are looking for another guy that could be a good bridge to Papelbon. The problem is I dont see them giving up much for a bullpen guy becasue of the Eric Gagne thing last year.
